Correct Aqeeda series Part 1

1) THE AQEEDAH OF AHLUS SUNNAH IS TO ACCEPT THE ATTRIBUTES OF ALLAH WITHOUT EXPLAINING OR TASHBEEH ( LIKENING THEM TO THE CREATION ) OR TA'WEEL.
------------

Muhammad ibn al-Hasan ash-Shaybaanee (d. 189W), the companion of Aboo Haneefah said, “All time Fuqahaa, from the east to the west are agreed upon, (the obligation of) having faith in the Qur’aan and the ahaadeeth which  the reliable and trustworthy narrators have come with from the Messeng  Allaah (swallallaahu alaihi wasallam) in describing the Lord, the Mighty and the Majestic, without explaining them (tafseer) or likening them to the  creation (tashbeeh).

So whoever explains anything from them today, then he has departed from that which the Prophet (swallallaahu alaihi wasallam) and his Companions were upon. For verily, they did not explain them but they gave verdicts with whatever is in the Book and the Sunnah and then they remained quiet. So whoever speaks with the saying of Jahm (ibn Safwaan) then he has separated from the Jama’ah since he (Jahm) describes Him (Allaah) with nothingness
[ Reported by al-Laalikaa’ee in Sharh Usoolil-I’tiqaad, 3/432 ]

2)
Ibn Taymiyyah reported: A questioner asked, “How does Allah settle upon the Throne?” (10:3) It was said to him as Rabiah and Malik and others, may Allah be pleased with them, have said, “The settling is known; the how is unknown; belief in it is obligatory and asking about the how of it is an innovation (bidah),” for in general it is not known to human beings and it is not possible for them to answer concerning it.

[Majmu’ Al-Fatawa, Al-Aqeedah]

3) where is ALLAH
A) SOme Evidences from the Qur'an

1)"And when Allah said: 'O Jesus! I will take you and raise you to Myself'."[3:55]

2)"Do you feel secure that He, Who is fis-sama (above the heavens), will not cause the earth to sink…Or do you feel secure that He, Who is fis-sama (above the heavens) will not send against you a violent whirlwind?" [67:16-17]

3_"To Him ascend (all) the goodly words, and the righteous deeds lift them."[35:10]

4)"From Allah, the Lord of the Places of Ascent, the angels and the Ruh (Gabriel) ascend to Him in a day the measure whereof is of fifty thousand years."[70:3-4]

5)
And: "And verily, your Rubb is Allaah who created the heaven and earth in six days, and then rose over the 'Arsh."(Quran  7:54 )

B) Some Evidences from the Sunnah (the Way) of the Prophet

1)"I had a slave-girl who used to herd sheep for me. One day I discovered that a wolf had killed one of her sheep, and I'm a man from the children of Adam, I get upset like they get upset, and I slapped her in the face. Then I went to the Prophet who impressed upon me the seriousness of my act. I said, 'O Messenger of Allah, should I not set her free?' He said, 'Bring her to me.' He asked her, 'Where is Allah', She said, 'He is above the heavens.' He said, 'Who am I?' She said, 'You are the Messenger of Allah.' He said, 'Free her, for she is a believer.' (Muslim and Abu Dawud)

2)Jabir ibn Abdillah said: "The Messenger of Allah said in his speech on the day of Arafah: 'Did I convey (the Message).' They said: 'Yes.' While raising his finger to the sky and then pointing at them, he said: 'O my Lord, be a witness." [Muslim]

3)Abdullah ibn Amr ibn Al-As related that the Messenger said, "Allah grants mercy to the merciful. Be merciful to those who are on the earth, (then) He Who is fis-Sama (above the heavens) will be merciful to you." [Abu Dawood & At-Tirmidhi]

C)The Ijma of the Sahaba and Their Sayings

1))Abu Bakr As-Sideeq said: "Whoever worshipped Mohammed,
Mohammed has died. Whoever worshipped Allah, Allah is Alive fis-Sama (above the heavens), and death does not touch Him." [Ad-Darimi in Ar-Radd 'Alal-Jahmiyyah].

2)Umar ibn al-Khattab visited Syria riding on his camel. The companions said to him: "O leader of the believers, will you not ride a Birthoun (a jade, horse of mean, non Arab breed) so you may be intercepted by the great and noted people." Umar replied: "Do I not see you from here? Verily the matter comes from here" (and he pointed with his hand to the sky). [Ibn Qayyim in Ijtima al-Joyush al-Islamiyyah]

3) Zainab, the wife of the Prophet sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam, used to claim excellence over the rest of his wives by telling them, 'It is only your parents who gave you in marriage to the Prophet sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam, while it is Allaah Who gave me in marriage to him from above the seven heavens.' (Al-Bukhaaree.)

D) The Sayings of the Tabiyeen and the Tabe-Tabiyeen

1)The second generation after the companions (tabiyeen) continued the firmness in matters of Aqeedah. There are too many to enumerate. A few examples include Marwan, Qatadah, Sulayman, Al-Taymi, Muqatil and so on. [Al-Uluw by At-Thahabee]
2)"We used to say, while at-Tabiyeen were still many, that Allah, all praise to Him, is upon His Throne. We believe in what the Sunnah has told us of His Attributes." [Al-Uluw by At-Thahabee].

The Sayings of the Imam about Where is ALLAH

1)Imam Abu-Haneefa said that "Whoever says that he does not know whether His Lord is above the heavens or on earth is a disbeliever (kafir!), because Allah has said (meaning): 'The Ever-Merciful Istawa (rose) upon His Throne' [20-5]. And His Throne is above the seven heavens." Abu Muti al-Balkhi asked him: "What if says that yes Allah is upon His Throne but he does not know whether the throne is above the earth or on earth itself?" To which Abu Haneefa replied, "He is (still) a disbeliever (kafir), because he rejected that Allah is above the heavens , and that the creation make supplications above to their Lord and not downward." [At-Thahabee in Al-Uluw]

2)Imam Shafi said that "The sunnah that we follow along with our companions, followers of hadith whom I met and took knowledge from, like Sufiyan, Imam Malik, and others, is that we believe that there is no god except Allah and that Mohammed is His Messenger. And that Allah , the Praised One, is upon His Throne fis-sama (above the heavens). He comes closer to His slaves as He wills. Allah descends to the lower heaven as He wills." [At-Thahabee in Al-Uluw]

3)Imaam Maalik  Abdullah bin Nafi' reported: Maalik bin Anas said:'Allaah is above the heavens, but His knowledge encompasses everything. Nothing escapes His knowledge.' (. Abdullah bin Ahmad, as-Sunnah, and others.)

4)Imam Ahmad bin Hanbal said to a Jahmi: "On the Day of Resurrection, Won't there be Paradise, Hell-fire, the Throne, and the Air?" The Jahmi replied: "Yes." Ahmad said: "Then where will our Lord be?" The Jahmi replied: "He will be everywhere and in everything as He was in this life ..." Ahmad said: "Then, according to you: that of Allah which was upon the Throne, will be upon the Throne, and that of Allah which was in Paradise, will be in Paradise, and that of Allah which was in Hell-fire, will be in Hell-fire, and that of Allah which was in the Air, will be in the Air? It was at that point that their lying about Allah, whose praise is exalted became clear." [Ar-Radd 'Ala Az-Zanadiqah]

5) Imaam Ahmad He was asked: "Is Allaah above His 'Arsh, above the seventh heaven, separate from His creatures, and is His knowledge and power encompassing everything everywhere? He replied: 'Certainly, He is above His 'Arsh and nothing escapes His knowledge." [54] All of the above show that the entire Muslim ummah, in the past and present, is in unison regarding the belief in the Loftiness and Supremacy of Allaah, the Exalted. (Al-Juyoosh al-Islamiyyag, Ibn al-Qayyim, p.123.)

5)At-Tirmidhi, the great muhaditheen said: "He is above the Throne as He described in His Book. His Knowledge, Power, and Lordship are everywhere." [Al-fatawa by Ibn Taymeeah]

6)Ibn Khuzaymah"Whoever does not affirm that Allah is above His heavens, upon His Throne and that He is distinct from His creation; must be forced to repent. If he does not repent, then he must be beheaded and then thrown into a garbage dump, so that the Muslims and the Ahl-Dhimma (the Christians and the Jew) will not suffer from his stinking smell." [Al-Hakim in Al-Marifah].

Our Manhaj (The methodology by which truth is reached)

What or Who is Salaf?

The manhaj (methodology) of the Salaf is to adhere to the Qur'aan and the authentic Sunnah as understood by the Salaf as-Saalih. The word Salaf is a shortened version of the word 'Salaf as-Saalih', which means the 'Righteous Predecessors'.

It refers specifically to the first three generations of Islaam in which the Prophet Muhammad (Sallalaahu Alaihi wa Sallam) described as being the best generations of Muslims. The first, the Prophet (Sallalaahu Alaihi wa Sallam) and his Sahaabah (companions). The second, the Taabi'een (the followers of the companions). The third, the Tabaa'at-Taabi'een (the followers of the followers of the companions).

Generally, this term refers to all those pious predecessors who followed the way of the Salaf and who have preceded us in time. This is the true manhaj of Ahl as-Sunnah wa al-Jamaa'ah.
"If Allah wants to favor someone, He grants him comprehension (understanding) of this religion."
[Sahih Bukhari vol.1 # 71, Tirmidhi and Musnad Ahmad]

The example of guidance and knowledge with which, Allah has sent me is like abundant rain falling on the earth, some of which was fertile soil, absorbed rain water and brought forth vegetation and grass in abundance. (And) another portion of it was hard and held the rainwater and Allah benefited the people with it and they utilized it for drinking, making their animals drink from it and for irrigation of the land for cultivation. (And) a portion of it was barren which, could neither hold the water nor bring forth vegetation (then that land gave no benefits). The first is the example of the person who comprehends Allah's religion and gets benefit (from the knowledge), which Allah has revealed through me (the Prophet) and learns and then teaches others. The last example is that of a person who does not care for it and does not take Allah's guidance revealed through me (He is like that barren land.)" [Sahih Al-Bukhari v.1 no.79. Narrated by Abu Musa]

It is only those who have knowledge amongst His slaves that fear Allah.[Soorah Al-Fatir (35): 28]

"Seek knowledge, because seeking it for the sake of Allah is a worship. And knowing it makes you more God-fearing; and searching for it is jihad, teaching it to those who do not know is charity, reviewing and learning it more is like tasbeeh. Through knowledge Allah will be known and worshipped. With the knowledge Allah will elevate people and make them leaders and imams, who will in turn guide other people."[Fatawa Ibn Taymiyya vol.10, p.39]

"Whoever treads on a path in search of Islamic knowledge, Allah will ease the way to Paradise for him. The angels will lower their wings, pleased with this seeker of knowledge, and everyone in the heavens and on earth will ask forgiveness for the knowledgeable person, even the fish in the deepest of waters will ask for his forgiveness” [Abu Dawud, Ibn Majah, Tirmidhi # 2835-sahih hadith]

“He whom death overtakes while he is engaged in acquiring knowledge with a view to reviving Islam with the help of it, there will be one degree between him and the Prophets in Paradise .” [Al-Tirmidhi Hadith no. 249. Narrated by Al-Hasan al-Basri]

4 caliphs (r.a) Quotes

1)They wrote to ‘Umar ibn al-Khattab (ra) asking him, “Who is better: a man who has no desires and desires have not even occurred to him, or a man who fights with his soul over desires until he leaves them for the sake of Allah?” So ‘Umar wrote back saying, “Indeed, the one whose soul desires sin and he then leaves it for the sake of Allah is from ‘…those whom Allah has tested their hearts for piety. They shall have forgiveness and a great reward.’ [al-Hujurat: 3]

Thus Allah does not test His believing servant with the love of desires, and sin, and yearning for it, except that He wishes to lead him to a love that is greater and better for him than that, and more beneficial and more lasting. So let a person strive against himself to abandon desires for His Sake, so that this abandonment can lead him to the Beloved, Most High. Every time his soul contends with him in order to lead him towards desires and sins, and his yearning and wish for it increases, he will then avert that strong desire and love towards a loftier type (of love) that remains. So his seeking of this (greater) love becomes more intense and his desire for it becomes more complete.

This is in contrast to the calmer soul that is empty and does not face this struggle, because even though it also has a lofty goal, there is a great difference between the two! Don’t you see that the one who walks to his beloved upon hot coals and thorns is more virtuous than he who goes to his beloved whilst riding on fine horses? Thus the one who prefers his Beloved after fighting with his soul is not like the one who prefers his Beloved without any striving or fighting to get away from other than Him. Allah, the Most High, tests His servant with desires, either to become a veil against Himself, or a veil for him to help him attain His Pleasure, Bounties, and nearness to Him.”

Sh. Sayyid al-‘Affani, pg. 150

2) Umar Ibnul-Khattaab (radiyallaahu ’anhu) said,  “Beware of sitting with the people of opinion, since they are the enemies of the Sunnah. They retain the Sunnah in order to memorize it, and they forget [And in a narration, “...and it slips away from them...”] the ahaadeeth that they have memorized. So they are asked about that which they do not know, and they are shy to say, ‘We do not know.’ So they give rulings by their opinions, so they go astray and they lead many others astray. So they go astray from the Straight Path. Verily Allaah did not take your Prophet until the Revelation had left no room for opinion. If the opinion took precedence over the Sunnah, then wiping over the bottom of the socks would take precedence over the tops.”

4)"No amount of guilt can change the past and no amount of worrying can change the future. Go easy on yourself for the outcome of all affairs is determined by Allah's Decree. If something is meant to go elsewhere, it will never come your way, but if it is yours by destiny, from you it cannot flee."

Umar Ibn al-Khattab (radi Allaahu ta'alaa anhu)

5)-`Umar Ibn al-Khattaab [radiallaahu anhu] said:

“(Soon a group of) people will come to you, arguing with you regarding the Mutashaabih (unclear verses) of the Qur’aan. So debate with them using the Sunnah. For verily the As-haab al-Sunan (those who know the Sunnah of the Prophet sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) are the most knowledgeable people about the Book of Allaah.”
